What Is Important To Know About Surgical Time Outs?
You may want to know what a surgical time out is. A surgical time out procedure is held before your surgical procedure. This time out is conducted to make sure that you are the right patient, that the procedure is being performed to the right body part, and that all safety precautions have been taken to avoid surgical fires and any other harm that might occur to you as the patient during the procedure. All of the medical providers in the room should answer aloud and participate in the time out procedure. Your surgical facility whether it be in a free standing surgical center or a hospital should have policies and procedures that relate to the surgical time out.
