When
you or someone you love suffers from a heart attack,
every second counts. Early diagnosis and treatment
is critical in saving lives and mitigating damage
to a patient's heart. Therefore, if you or someone
you love experiences the signs of a heart attack,
do not hesitate to pursue medical attention. If
you feel that you have a cardiac arrest lawsuit,
contact a heart attack malpractice attorney as
soon as possible.
Most
heart attacks start slowly, marked by only mild
pain or discomfort. Too often affected patients
wait too long before getting help.
The
American Heart Association offers the following
signs of a heart attack:
- Chest
discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort
in the center of the chest that lasts more than
a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back.
It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing,
fullness or pain.
- Discomfort
in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms
can include pain or discomfort in one or both
arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness
of breath
with or without chest discomfort.
- Other
signs
may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea
or lightheadedness.
Notably,
atypical signs of a heart attack also exist. Almost
30 percent of all heart attack victims do not
report any chest pain at all, putting them at
a much higher risk of misdiagnosis. Women and
elders are more likely to exhibit these atypical
symptoms. Further, women are more likely to be
nauseous and experience pain high in the abdomen
or chest, and symptoms may also include extreme
fatigue after physical activity.
From
ambulance response time, to emergency room diagnosis,
the timeline for required medical treatment does
not leave room for negligence. At Morgenstern
& Herd, P.A., our medical and legal experience
helps us determine medical negligence during treatment
for heart attacks. We can help you determine if
your situation warrants the filing of a heart
attack malpractice lawsuit.
