About Birth Injuries and Coumadin Administered to Pregnant Mothers
The FDA warns that the medication known as coumadin, when taken by a pregnant mother, may cause birth defects in a baby before birth.
Coumadin is sometimes given to patients to help prevent heart attacks, strokes or blood clots. Coumadin is also an ingredient also found in rat poison. Because of its high toxicity, it is not to be given to a woman during pregnancy.
This medication can cause birth defects in an unborn baby. It should not be used during pregnancy.
If you were taking coumadin at the time you became pregnant, or if your doctor prescribed coumadin during your pregnancy and your baby was subsequently born with birth defects, you are urged to talk to an attorney promptly. Medical malpractice lawyers of Morgenstern & Herd, P.A., handle birth injury cases involving birth defects apparently caused by coumadin.
About Coumadin Apart From Pregnancy: Medication Error
We are also prepared to counsel and represent patients other than pregnant women — men and women who themselves were harmed by coumadin which they were taking for specific therapeutic purposes.
Did you become ill while taking coumadin? It is possible that you were not properly instructed about your diet while taking this drug —or that proper precautions were not taken when you had surgery while taking coumadin. Failure to monitor your diet or warn you of the dangers of coumadin and surgery may have been responsible for your illness after surgery — or your loved one's death after surgery.
(Patients who have been taking coumadin and who are approaching surgery are normally taken off the drug during surgery, as it can prevent blood clotting that needs to occur during the healing period after surgery.)
You may have been a victim of a medication mistake if you were taking coumadin at the time you had surgery — and complications developed as a result of your blood's inability to clot normally.
